Song of Lawino ©1988, was drawn from a work by Okot p-Bitek, an exiled Ugandan poet. I collaborated with choreographer, dancer, and founder/artistic director of the Urban Bush Women, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, and experimental theater director and writer, Valeria Vasilevski in creating studies on paper and a transforming set design for a dance, music and spoken word production.
Performed by the Urban Bush Women company with composers and musicians, Edwina Lee Tyler, and Tiye Giraud. Beverly Emmons designed the lighting and Gabriel Berry costumes. Produced by Reduta Deux Ltd.
Performances traveled to the following: Dance Theater Workshop, NYC, City College, NYC, LACE & MOCA, Los Angeles, CA, Boulder, CO, Tampa, FL, & London, UK.
